history Finnigan Cole Gallagher was born in july of 1985, in a small town just outside of Anacortes, simply put. Everything about his birth was completely normal. He was born in a private room at some county hospital, with his entire Irish family waiting in the room just outside. Growing up was a cinch in his family. Mr Gallagher brought in the "big" bucks working with some investment firm in town. He got a promotion to like general manager or regional manager or something like that around the time Finn turned two. Considering nothing changed, it never really phased him or his younger sister Callie. The gist of it all was Finn's father just came home with more paperwork on occasion which meant that the local ballgame wasn't turned on the television for a little bit longer. And Callie didn't see dad at her piano recitals. Mr. Gallagher was faced with more responsibilities and all that. Their mother was the one with the real heart of gold, the woman was a beauty and she really was a total saint. She became a teacher because she loved kids, not to mention she was a very smart woman. The way Finn understood it later, his mom Elinor, could have been anything. she'd come from some family that had been much better off and would have been happy to send her to harvard or yale, maybe even princeton, but she went to community college because it was cheaper, and she could afford it herself, not to mention it had a better teaching program. Said she liked the idea of changing lives in a classroom instead of picketing at some nuclear plant or something else as ridiculous. Finn still remembers as a kid curling up with her on the couch and chuckling while she graded papers on his back while Callie played with her barbies in the floor.
Really, everything about his life was normal, he had his parents and a younger sister and for the time being, it was all he needed. Elementary school was a snore, but a struggle. He never was good with words and it took a lot for him to make sense of things in class, but then he'd sit down with his mother and she would explain things to him in ways he could understand. He passed each grade level, working his way up into high school which, of course, got more difficult as time went on. Callie had always been an excellent student but as they grew the two of them began to argue. Finn was jealous of Callie's smarts and Callie was jealous of his skill with sports. Their mother got more involved with her work and had less time to sit around and help Finn but, being the teacher that she was, she'd taught him skills that he could use without her supervision. Either way, he found his own footing in his freshman year and from there kind of took on the responsibility himself of getting average grades. Come sophomore year, Finnigan got really into sports. He tried out for everything and usually made the team because he was tall and was relatively fast. He was on the baseball team, the basketball team, the football team, and he did wrestling as well. By the time graduation rolled around he was the fittest kid around, and he liked it. While Callie got into music and arts with her skills on piano, and ignored the rest of the student body, Fin was a big hit with the girls around high school and he gained the respect of the other sports oriented students. Even now he'll admit that he was the high school jock and though he was no where near dumb, however, he did a lot of dumb things with his spare time. There weren't many weekends that he didn't sneak into the house to see his mother asleep on the couch where she'd been nervously waiting for him to get home. Thinking back on it now he regrets any pain he ever caused that woman, but he was young and arrogant as a kid and he didn't know what was going to be hitting him in the future. Callie took it upon herself to scold Finn every time he arrived after curfew and the two grew to a terrible sibling relationship. They had nothing in common, no understanding of one another and they couldn't stand being in a room together for more than 30 minutes at a time.
He graduated from high school but couldn't bring himself to immediately dive into the college thing, unlike Callie who dove right in. She took to a fancy, prestigious college..might've heard of it? Juliard and stayed in the buildings only a mile away. Collge really wasn't for Fin though, and he believed it from the start. He had struggled and done everything he could just to get average passing grades in high school and he knew that anything above that just wasn't his calling like it was for his mom. She was in fact the only one in his family to go to college. His father had gotten his job and moved up through the company without a degree. his occupational journey wasn't awe inspiring and neither was his mother's so Finnigan went out and did his own thing. After graduation he took a year off to figure his shit out which basically just gave him an excuse to do whatever it was he felt like doing. He did a month long country road trip with his friends before they high-tailed it to whatever beckoned to steal their freedom and souls be it college or some job. He on the other hand had nothing waiting so he chose to go overseas. of course he did so the hard way by signing away his soul to the army. he went through training and did his tour and realized that it just wasn't the right fit for him. His mother loved it when he got home, he knew that much. He bummed around from job to job for a few more years until his mother was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, one of the most difficult cancers to detect and fight. She went on intense rounds of chemo and radiation but nothing worked and after each round his father lost it a little bit more. Callie came home from Juliard just in time to see her mother before she passed, but went back before things with their father got too bad. By the time she gave up and the machines stopped reading her heart beat, Mr. Gallagher was gone as well. He talked to inanimate objects and whatnot and after he tried to kill himself Finn had to commit him. No one really knows that he's in the mental hospital. He had quit his job to care for Fin's mother full time and had shut himself away as she got worse.
With his mother gone and her death left for Fin to tend to, and with his father in a straight jacket, it took everything he had not to just lose it too. Anger won out over other emotions and he just took to using his hands. things he learned in the army helped a little but he'd always been a strong guy and fighting just eased the pain. Some irish guy saw him beating the shit out of some drunken asshole one night and pointed him toward the underground fighting rings and that's been the norm ever since. nowadays he fights for a living. it's the only thing that's ever felt right or real in his life besides his mother and it's a great way to get rid of all his frustrations. it's his only means of income and that's fine with him.
